In terms of fit, if your shoes are leather or suede you ideally want them to be snug width-wise as the material will stretch and mould to the shape of your foot ensuring a supportive, comfortable fit. In terms of length, you do not want the shoes to be too short as they will not stretch lengthwise, you should have room to wiggle your toes. If your boot is rubber or steel toe, then the boots should not feel overly snug as the material will not stretch.

How do I measure my leg?
- Sit in a straight chair with your knees bent at 90 degrees to the floor.
- Wear the breeches and socks that you would most likely wear with your tall boots.
- Have someone else measure your calves, if possible:
- To determine calf width: Measure the calf width at the widest part of the calf.
- To determine calf height: Measure leg height from the floor to the bend behind the knee.
- Add approximately ½”–¾” to allow for drop.
- Approximate drop allowance is built into the chart height measurements so make sure you add drop to your leg measurement.
